Continuing the parade of Black Friday success stories is Simplexity, one of the Internet's largest mobile phone retailers. Yesterday they reported that their Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales broke new records. They averaged one phone sale every seven seconds on both days. Traffic to their websites, including Wirefly.com, was nearly double what it was last year.
In total, Simplexity saw sales rise 84% this year over last year. It's not hard to see why. When I did my Black Friday coverage, the one area of both Best Buys that was always crowded was the mobile phone aisle. Buying a new mobile on Black Friday can be a nightmare. Smart shoppers avoid the hassle by going online.
Simplexity's five best selling phones of the Black Friday weekend are as follows. The Motorola Droid, the BlackBerry Bold 9700 (AT&T), the BlackBerry Storm2 (VZW), the Samsung Impression A877 (AT&T), and the Palm Pre (Sprint). No real surprises there. Once more the Droid cleans up at holiday shopping, cementing its place as the (distant) second-best selling smartphone of the holidays.
