USB 3.0 is the promised land, and Hewlett Packard is the first refugee to make it across the border. Their HP Envy 15 (Shanzai) is officially the first mainstream consumer laptop to sport USB 3.0 out of the box. If you order an Envy 15 from HP Direct (and get the version with ATI 5830 graphics and a quad-core i7 processor) it will come with USB 3.0. In addition, HP's business laptops (the Elitebook 8540p and 8540w) also have 3.0 inside.
With USB 3.0, your files will transfer up to ten times as fast as they did before (provided the other device is also USB 3.0). All USB 3.0 technology is backwards compatible, so you'll still be able to hook these laptops up to your old external hard drives. It just won't be nearly as much fun.
