The video game hardware sales numbers are in for the holiday shopping month December. Game hardware sales made December a record month for the video game industry reaching $5.5 billion in sales overall according to Reuters.
The Nintendo Wii sold 3.8 million units compared to 1.36 million Sony PS3 and 1.31 million Xbox 360 consoles. The Sony PS3 made the biggest jump though, with a 90% increase compared to a year ago.
The Wii sold well because there was plenty of stock and for the first time real sales offers including bundled gift cards.
I predict that 2010 will not be that easy for the Nintendo Wii because of the PS3 and the Xbox 360 entering motion controlled gaming. Nintendo will pull out a new trick for the Wii to keep sales going.
