If you wondered what the 3D content on a mobile phone would be like, Sony Ericsson has a demo of 3D map tech on its Xperia X10 smartphone that gives us an idea what the tech will look like on smartphones. Ericsson Labs has unveiled a new API called 3D Landscape along with a video demo of it in action. What you get is a landscape that looks like Google Maps.
The big difference in the 3D Landscape API and Google Maps is the full 3D display of the maps. Ericsson Labs says that the API will also work in a Java environment. For now, the 3D Landscape only covers Stockholm, but coverage for more areas is coming.
