HP had Microsoft CEO unveiling the HP Slate Tablet Computer at the CES 2010. Now in the wake of the Apple Tablet unveiling, HP published a video of HP CTO Phil McKinney explaining the HP Slate and its background.

The HP video tells us that HP has been working on tablets for 5 years. HP's CTO Phil McKinney wants to make sure that HP is not an Apple Tablet copy-cat.

Tablets are not an invention by Apple anyway. Tablet computers have been around for years, they just did not catch on for various reasons.

Mr. McKinney is holding the HP Slate in his hands during most of the video, but I do not feel gadget envy.
The Apple Tablet will not look much different from the HP Slate, possibly a bit thinner. The key is still the user experience. HP does not show any of it on the Slate.

HP says the HP Slate will launch in 2010. Tomorrow we will finally know if Apple has indeed created something entirely new around a Tablet computer.
