The U.S. Apple Store is down for maintenance. The European Apple stores are still online.
One guess is that Apple will start to offer iPad pre-ordering on the U.S. Apple store today.
After the surprise iPad appearance at the Grammy Award show it would be smart for Apple to start taking iPad orders today.
The Wi-Fi iPad is supposed to ship in March. Wired notes though that the iPad does not have FCC approval yet. Without the FCC approval Apple will not be able to offer the iPad for pre-order.
Since the Apple Store is only down in the United States it needs to be something specific to the US market. Of course it also could just be nothing and Apple is just updating some backend stuff.
Update:
Store is back online and nothing has changed.
