Today we have a very special device to show you; the first true iPad clone. This isn't just a new tablet PC meant to compete with the iPad, the ExoPC Slate also looks a lot like it. It has basically the same design, albeit with a slightly smaller screen and a different colored bezel. It is multitouch capable and packs a 1.6 GHz Atom N270 processor underneat that 8.7" screen.
It also has 2 GB of RAM and a 32 GB SSD, plus a microSD slot. In essence, it's half of the netbooks ever released, but built into a tablet. The ExoPC Slate will only be able to manage around four hours of battery life, but the price is definitely right. $599 puts it right in line with the 32 GB iPad. Also like the iPad, it launches in march. Those of you eager to get a tablet of some sort now have a multitasking-ready alternative to the iPad.
The only issue with this slate? No 3G. That's going to hurt its chances just a little bit. Without Internet access everywhere, this thing loses a lot of utility.
