Samsung Unveils Eco-friendly 2TB HDDs

Samsung has announced a new eco friendly, green hard drive with a huge 2TB capacity called the EcoGreen F3EG. The drive has platters with 500GB per platter and can store up to 880 hours of DVD video or over 500,000 MP3 songs. The large platter capacity allows the drive to support the 2TB capacity with four disks.

Less discs means less power consumed and faster data access. The F3EG drive uses the Samsung EcoTriangle technology providing low-power and low-noise operation. Samsung uses green tech in the construction of the HDD with no halogen compounds or BFRs used in the construction of the drive.

The storage device meets RoHS standards as well. Low noise operation is aided by SilentSeek and NoiseGuard technology. The drive also sips power with a 40% reduction in power consumption in idle mode and a 10% reduction in operation. The drive uses the 3Gbps SATA interface and is available for $179.99.
