Acer's first foray into the world of smartphones has been a little baffling to many. They've gone through all the trouble to release one of the most powerful phones on the market...and then crippled it by underclocking the processor. At the MWC, Acer unveiled the 'e' upgrade (Engadget) to its Liquid series. This device packs Android 2.1, instead of the now-venerable 1.6.

It has the same underpowered 768 MHz processor, though. The Liquid e also has a 3.5” WVGA display, 5 MP camera with AF, GPS, b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, 256 MB of RAM, and an accelerometer. Somehow, that doesn't sound nearly as impressive as it did last Fall, when we first saw the Liquid get detailed. Acer, you might want to start working on something else.
