Yesterday, Intel and Nokia made the announcement that they would be merging their Moblin and Maemo operating systems into the MeeGo OS. Now we have news from GearLog as to what the first MeeGo phone will be. During a press breakfast at the MWC, an LG presenter confirmed that the GW990 will be transitioned from Moblin to MeeGo.
The GW990 may not be the first MeeGo phone to launch chronologically, but it is the first device we have reasonable confirmation of. The GW990 is scheduled to launch in Korea in 2H of this year. There are no current plans for a US launch, which means the N900 could still be the most likely 'first' MeeGo phone on this side of the world.
