All of the encryption and decryption of the text of voice is done right on the microSD card so the phone performance is not impacted at all. Running the software on the microSD card also means that the encryption keys are not subject to theft.
The microSD card can be loaded into unmodified 3G smartphones by service providers. The goal is to protect voice and data more effectively since GSM security was compromised last year. Pricing and availability is unknown at this time.
