Ah, Pixel Qi, the holy grail of tablet screens. The one advantage a device like the Kindle has over a tablet (aside from price) is battery life. The E-Ink screen is just too damned efficient for a standard LCD screen to ever out-last. The Pixel Qi transreflective LCD screen is capable of switching between E-Ink and LCD, which can extend battery life by an incredible amount.
Now the Pixel Qi blog has announced that their first screen kits will launch in Q2 of this year, around June. There's no word on the exact size of these kits, but we can assume at least the 10.1” models will be on sale to start. If you're balking at the idea of changing your laptop/tablet screen, don't. Pixel Qi says that the whole operation is only “slightly more difficult” than changing a lightbulb.
