Everyone wants a piece of the tablet game. When he unveiled the iPad earlier this year, Steve Jobs yanked his finger out of the dike. Now a vast sea of tablet computers are rushing out to meet the sudden perceived spike in demand. Fortune reported earlier today on the changes the iPad is wreaking within the industry.
Buried within the article is a delicious little tidbit of information about Toshiba's plans for the near future. Jeff Barney, head of Toshiba's US Notebook division, stated that his company planned to release a line of consumer slates in “late 2010 or early 2011”. No details on the tablets themselves were given out, but Barney stated that the industry needed “new category creation” to grow.
