Amazon released the Kindle reader for Mac. The Kindle for Mac is of course free like the other reader versions.
The Kindle for Mac reader software supports Mac OS X 10.5 and above.
You do not need a Kindle to use the Kindle ebook reader software. Kindle is available for the iPhone and will also be available for the upcoming Apple iPad.
You can download Kindle for Mac on Amazon now.
On a side note. Amazon and publishers really need to get their act together on the eBook pricing soon. For instance the new book "The Big Short" by Michael Lewis sells for $15.37 as hard-cover and $23.78 as Kindle eBook. The NY Times just published a story on the current situation of eBook pricing and the power play between Apple's iBookstore for the iPad and Kindle.
