Here's a story that seems likely to have some highly entertaining fallout. Reuter's reports that President Obama's Twitter account has been hacked by an “unemployed Frenchman”. The hacker broke into the accounts of both the President, and pop star Britney Spears. French police have already arrested the 25-year-old man.
The hacker apparently got in by somehow acquiring the passwords of Twitter administrators. He wasn't able to get far into either personal account, but he did get control of Twitter. The man's online name was HackerCroll, and he did not appear to be interested in stealing any money from his victims. He did, however, gain screen grabs of confidential data.
This is certainly a sobering look at the security we can actually rely on in our daily digital lives. Anything and everything you post on the Internet can be uncovered by a knowledgeable, properly motivated person. Don't put it on the Internet if you can't bear someone reading it.
