My smartphone is pretty cool, but sometimes I wish it were adorable. App games are fun and all, but they don't hold a candle to man's best friend. Unfortunately, dogs and smartphones have very few overlapping functions. That is, until now.

Laura Boffi, from the Copenhagen Institute for Interactive Design, has invented a wearable vest with a GPS and the ability to receive and deliver voice and video messages. In disaster areas, these dogs will roam the periphery and provide a way for survivors to get messages to their friends and family.

The first incarnation of iDog technology is pretty basic, but I have total faith that the future will bring us touchscreen dogs with massive app catalogues and the ability to play Flash video.
