Remember when a 32 GB SSD was huge? Colossus has just launched a new 3.5” desktop SSD that makes all previous models look positively tiny by comparison. Their new Colossus LT series comes in 120 GB, 250 GB, 500 GB and 1 freaking TB sizes. These drives offer 260 Mbps read/write speeds, plus 140 Mbps sustained write speed (for the 120 GB models) and 220 Mbps sustained write speeds for everything else.
Prices have not been released yet, but they are expected to be predictably painful. Around $600 for a 120 GB drive, and an estimated $3,500+ for the 1 TB drive. If you have more money than Midas, this sounds like a great way to replace your spindle drive. The rest of us will just have to wait until large SSDs hit bargain-basement levels.
