Those rumors of a Core iX tablet suddenly sound more plausible. Intel is hard at work on a new i7 processor that is clocked at just 1.33 GHz, 2.4 GHz on Turbo. (Fudzilla) This version should start shipping soon, while another (1.4g Ghz/2.53 GHz) will ship out in the next quarter.
These low-voltage processors were likely made with ultralight notebooks and tablets in mind. The Intel Core i7 680 UM (1.46 GHz) is said to draw 18 W of power. We'll see what that translates to in terms of battery life shortly.
