Don't expect any pleas of insanity in this bankruptcy case: Game Crazy has gone crazy enough to file for Chapter 11 and close down all of its remaining brick-and-mortar stores.
At its peak Movie Gallery, the parent company of the chain, had several hundred Game Crazy locations across the country, many of which were stores-within-a-store inside Hollywood Video rental shops.
But now, only around 250 locations remain open. And after a long struggle, the plug will finally be pulled on the entire chain, according to many online reports and confirmed by IGN.
The last time I dealt with Game Crazy, I pre-ordered LittleBigPlanet to receive an exclusive pre-order bonus only available to Game Crazy. Long story short, I never got my bonus item. And from doing some research, it seems that that specific pre-order bonus was never shipped to the stores, ever.
I don't know if that was an isolated event, but I do know that I am personally not surprised to see this struggling chain fall into an abyss.
Expect store-closing sales to begin shortly, followed by 250 empty storefronts that will be looking for new owners.
