Although there are plenty of third-party apps that let Android users Tweet on the go, Twitter has now launched an official mobile application for Google's operating system.

Twitter had historically relegated its mobile operations to independent developers, giving them access to its code to provide users more flexibility and options.

But that led to app fatigue, creating confusion among mobile Twitter users. So the company stepped in itself and now has an official mobile Twitter app, which first launched on the iPhone.

Now available on Android, the app allows users to make seamless updates to their Twitter accounts and read Tweet streams from other accounts.

Twitter for Android is available for anyone running version 2.1 or later, and is now a free download from the Android Market.
