Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced that it is now offering protection plans for the PS3 and PSP game consoles. The protections plans are intended to start when the devices original manufacturer's warranty expire.

PSP owners can opt for an accidental damage alone that will replace the PSP if it is dropped and broken. The PSP plan covers cracked screens and other types of damage. The PS3 plans cover all shipping charges and reports that are performance by PlayStation trained service techs at authorized repair facilities.

The plans will be offered starting this month. A 1-year PS3 plan is $44.99, a 2-year extension is $59.99. A 1-year PSP plan is $29.99 and a 2-year plan is $39.99. Adding the accidental damage plan for the PSP is $39.99 for a year or $49.99 for two years. The new plans are only available for devices that are still in their original 1-year warranty period and new purchases.
