The results are in for the Guinness Video Game world records poll to determine the top video game franchises of all time. At the top, it wasn't Mario or Sonic; it's the Xbox-exclusive Halo.
In fact, Mario didn't even make the top 5. Although, the way the voting was set up, votes for Mario ended up being spread out across different selections, like Mario Kart and Mario Party, as well as Super Mario Bros, which reached #6.
Sonic the Hedgehog didn't even show up until the 15th spot. It appears as though gamers are very time-sensitive, as most of the iconic franchises that have lasted over 20 years were relegated to spots way down on the list.
Meanwhile, games like Call of Duty, Metal Gear, and Gears of War were most prominent. Take this poll in another year, though, and the list would probably be completely different.
