Captain Jack Sparrow will be coming to theaters like you've never seen him before: in 3D. Disney confirmed this week that its latest "Pirates" installment will be completely rendered in 3D.
This is a big opportunity for Disney to really harness the power of 3D and present moviegoers with a really memorable experience. This is, after all, one of its most current hot movie franchises.
Disney failed to wow audiences with its last 3D theatrical flick, Alice in Wonderland, in part because all 3D effects were added in post-production and there were no moments in the film that were conducive to stunning 3D visuals.
That will hopefully not be the case with Pirates 4, although with a release date of 2011, and the 3D announcement coming just now, it's unclear how firm this movie stands in its 3D commitment.
It will generate huge box office numbers, especially with the 3D premium price, but let's hope that Disney isn't just looking for a quick buck with this one.
