ModNation Racers Speeds Onto PS3, PSP Today

The game that hopes to do for racing what LittleBigPlanet did for platforming is now available. ModNation Racers is now available on the PS3 and PSP.
ModNation is a brand new kind of racing game. Users create their character, their vehicle, and their racetrack. Of course, there is a complete racing game built into the disc, which looks to be quite a competent title in its own right. However, the customization layer is really where the game sets itself apart.

"We continue to deliver on the success of PLAY, CREATE, SHARE movement with ModNation Racers as the next title in the series started by LittleBigPlanet," said Sony Computer Entertainment America marketing VP Scott Steinberg.

Unlike LittleBigPlanet, ModNation was developed for the PS3 and PSP simultaneously, and both versions are available at the same time.

LittleBigPlanet was one of the PS3's best-selling titles, but it quickly dissolved into niche-hood. Sony hopes ModNation will have more wide appeal, and with its core racing shell it should stand a longer shelf life.
