As yet another incentive to get people to buy a PSPgo, the system that has no UMD media slot and can't play retail games, Sony is offering 10 game downloads to anyone who registered their PSPgo after April 1, 2010.
The promotion, which is reportedly only valid in Europe, is expected to be officially announced today, according to MCV. PSPgo owners who register their device now, and those who happened to have already registered it after April 1st, will be prompted to download a special theme for their PSPgo.
That will trigger the availability of 10 free game downloads, which gamers will be able to pick from a slate of titles including LittleBigPlanet, Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars, Gran Turismo 5, and 2010 FIFA World Cup.
"This isn’t just older titles – we’ve worked with third parties and there’s some really good core products," said Sony UK sales director Mark Howsen in an interview with MCV.
It's a small way for Sony to try to reinvigorate PSPgo sales. The digital device was a risky move from day one, and not many people are surprised that it has been a considerable flop. It is still priced at $250, just barely cheaper than a PS3 and more expensive than just about any other game platform on the market.
Offering 10 free games is a nice deal for anyone who happens to buy the PSPgo, but I doubt it will do anything to drive sales.
