The global shipments of TVs rose 25% compared to the same quarter last year. Increase in many regions was as much as 50%. Over the quarter 55 million TVs were shipped total and LCD TVs alone shipped 44 million units.
World Cup games in Europe helped drive a 33% increase in shipments for the quarter. LCD sets continue to be the most popular technology with 74.1% of the market. Plasma sets have 6.2% of the market and OLED sets hold less than 1% of the market. CRT TVs still have 19.6% of the TV market.
