When it comes to animated series, Japan is where some of the most popular come from. One of the most beloved creations to ever come from Japan was Gundam, the massive robot protector.

The City of Shizuoka, Japan is now constructing a life-size Gundam statue that will stand 18-meteres tall when complete. The statue will wield the Beam Saber the cartoon character is famous for. The construction place for the robot is near JR Higashishizuoka Station.

The purpose of the statues construction is to add some coolness to the area and to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the launch of Gundam plastic model kits. The project will complete on July 24.
