There have been countless knockoffs and spoofs, but the real deal has now officially landed on the iPhone and iPod Touch. The Guitar Hero app is available today.
More than 40 million people have become Guitar Hero owners over the years, and the franchise is going mobile in a huge way.
Guitar Hero has also made its way to the Nintendo DS, but bulky console attachments made it difficult to really go super portable with it, without being awkward. The iPhone app makes it easy to play Guitar Hero anytime, anywhere.
Players use special touch controls to strum, tap, slide, and whammy-bar it away to a bunch of tracks that come with the $2.99 app as well as in packs of $1.99 each.
"With Guitar Hero for the iPhone and iPod Touch, we are once again leveraging our leadership position in the music/rhythm videogame space to deliver an all-new Guitar Hero experience that millions of people around the world can enjoy anytime, anywhere," the Guitar Hero studio's COO David Haddad.
Available with the app are the following tracks:
Queen – “We Are The Champions”
Rise Against – “Savior”
The Rolling Stones – “Paint It Black”
Vampire Weekend – “Cousins”
Weezer – “Say It Ain’t So”
The White Stripes – “Seven Nation Army”
Additional packs are available immediately including songs from The White Stripes, Silversun Pickups, AFI, Protest the Hero, and Queen.
