In response to recent price cuts for the Barnes & Noble Nook and the Amazon Kindle, Borders is offering a new incentive to buy its Kobo e-reader: double Borders Rewards credit and a $20 gift card.
It is not only a way to combat the cheaper prices of the competing devices, but also to promote the company's free reward program.
For every $150 a Borders Rewards customer spends, they get a $5 reward certificate that can be used on virtually anything in the store. The Kobo costs $150, but Borders will double the reward amount for people who buy the device, totaling a $10 certificate.
Barnes & Noble's Nook was originally priced at $199 but now it has a slimmed-down model available for $149. And Amazon just slashed the price of its Kindle to $189, down almost 50% from a year ago.
