The latest 3D movie announcement is of a live-action feature based on the famous Grimm Brothers fairy tale Hansel and Gretel, and it features the lead character designer from Avatar.
Scheduled to begin filming in the spring of 2011, the film is being produced by The Institute, the company owned by Michael Bay, as well as Kalliope Films.
The film does not have an official title but right now it is being referred to as "Hansel and Gretel in 3D" (pretty simplistic). Other than that, there are not a whole lot of details. Casting has not even been confirmed.
Having Joseph C. Pepe, the guy who was the lead character designer for Avatar, on board means this movie is certainly going to be a great visual 3D presentation, but it has to work hard to get away from the trend of movies based on fairy tales being historically awful.
