It's never going to compete with the iPad, but Amazon's Kindle e-reader now does a bit more than just presenting books: there's a couple games there now.
Amazon recently launched its own development kit for developers who want to create special apps for the device, and for the first time, there are downloadable games available.
It's not going to become the best gaming platform in the world, but it is nice to see some variety. As you might expect, the flagship game apps are word puzzle games.
First up is Every Word, a game that presents players with a handful of letters and asks them to come up with as many words of three letters or more as quickly as possible.
The other is Shuffle Row, a similar concept except letters are removed and replaced every time a new word is spelled.
Of course, the Kindle's screen is not even really designed for anything other than reading books, but it is still neat to see some third-party developers get into the Kindle action.
Both games are free and are available on Amazon or directly through the Kindle.
