The Motorola Droid has a sequel. Verizon Wireless has just sent out a press release announcing the launch of the Droid 2. Those leaked ads and the fact that the original Droid is now out of stock WERE pointing to something big. The Droid 2 is available for pre-sale now. It will launch with Android 2.2.
The Droid 2 will be available in VZW stores starting August 12. It will cost $199.99 with a 2-year contract and a $100 mail-in rebate. We can expect Flash 10.1 at launch. Expect a 3.7" display, 1 GHz processor, 8 GB of on-board memory and the ability to act as a WiFi hotspot. Starting in September, an R2-D2 version of the Droid 2 will be available. It will have a special skin and exclusive Star Wars content.
