Apple will be hosting a major media event on September 1. The invitations hinted towards a music-focused event, which has lead most folks to speculate that a new iPod touch will be released then. Initial reports pointed to a September 7 date, which is definitely wrong, but they also pointed towards a new Apple TV announcement. We could see cheap, 48-hour rentals of TV shows come to iTunes soon.
The front panels of the iPod touch 4th edition have already leaked out. No hard specs have leaked out yet (which is par for the course with Apple) but a front-facing camera and retinal display seem to be likely candidates.
Another possibility for September 1st is the release of a new iPod Nano that uses a 30-pin dock connector. It'll basically be a Nano version of the shuffle, and may sport a tiny touchscreen display.
With just two days left before the big event, anything is still possible. Apple couldn't keep the iPhone 4 locked up, but their traditional secrecy measures seem to be in fine fettle again now.
