A while back I mentioned that I had dropped my iPhone 3GS and cracked the screen. Even before that, I was having some issues with the thing cutting off at random points when playing games and streaming video. I have been holding out to get my hands on an iPhone 4 and my quest has really become irritating at this point and very much reminded me why I loathe AT&T so much.

I hate to preorder stuff, I want to go in and come out with the new product not wait for it to show up. All three local AT&T corporate stores have not had the iPhone 4 in stock since the launch so last week I finally decided just to go in and pre-order. I went through the whole process and when it came time to pay, I whipped out my trusty Master Card check card to pay for the thing.
AT&T will not allow you to use a check card, even though it's supposed to be good anywhere the credit card is taken. So after 30 minutes of them trying to talk me into every accessory they could imagine and putting in my new info they refused to let me pre-order the phone. I left the store much less than happy with the promise they would save me one with the next shipment for my trouble. They didn't save the phone for me after that promise was made either.
Over the weekend, I happened to find an AT&T corporate store that had a few iPhone 4's in stock and was ready to plunk down my check card, which they will take on in store purchases, and walk out with the iPhone 4. The store worker then informs me that they require anyone who buys the iPhone 4 with them to buy a $50 accessory pack too. The pack is stuff like a case and other random junk that I already own many versions of. Basically, they are extorting an extra $50 out of people for crap accessories that most of us will not need.

So my solution to his debacle that has been my attempt to give AT&T my money despite the fact that I loathe their service and network in my area is simple. I am waiting for the iPhone to hit Verizon and leaving AT&T and I sincerely hope many other people do as well. I might not even wait for the iPhone on Verizon. That Samsung Galaxy S looks really nice maybe it's time to just walk away from Apple and its partner altogether.
