Today, Apple announced the new Apple TV for $99 with free shipping. At about 1/4 of the size of the previous model, this media streaming device is solely rental-based via iTunes with TV shows starting at 99 cents and new release HD movies for $4.99. It displays 720p widescreen video and features Netflix, YouTube, Flickr, and Mobile Me integration, Airplay support, 802.11n wireless, Ethernet, built-in power supply, HDMI video output, optical audio output, and a USB port.
The new Apple TV is available for pre-order today and is scheduled to ship in four months.
