I have the first generation Apple TV and I don’t mind saying that the thing sucked hardcore. I have used it maybe three times and it sits on my entertainment center collecting dust. I am bitter about the thing and how bad it really is. With Apple unveiling the new Apple TV yesterday that is smaller, does more and is cheaper at $99 I hate my old silver box even more, but after the fail that was my experience with the first Apple TV you can be they won’t get my money for the new version.
Boxee has a competing product called the Box that we heard about back during CES. The Box is set to land in November and Boxee has shared the price for the thing. It will ask $199 for the Boxee Box, which is $100 more than the Apple TV offering.
Boxee doesn't apologize for that higher price and says that it believes there is room in the market for a device that is open. I say there is room on the market for a device that doesn't suck. Only time will tell if Boxee is right about its new offering. I can see people wanting open, but the desire for iTunes may trump that open lust for many.

The “geek mind” is concerned with more than just the latest iPhone rumors, or which company will win the gaming console wars. I4U is concerned with more than just the latest photo shoot or other celebrity gossip.
The “geek mind” is concerned with life, in all its different forms and facets. The geek mind wants to know about societal and financial issues, both abroad and at home. If a Fortune 500 decides to raise their minimum wage, or any high priority news, the geek mind wants to know. The geek mind wants to know the top teams in the National Football League, or who’s likely to win the NBA Finals this coming year. The geek mind wants to know who the hottest new models are, or whether the newest blockbuster movie is worth seeing. The geek mind wants to know. The geek mind wants—needs—knowledge.
