Last week when Apple unveiled the new iPod touch 4G, Apple made the claim in the announcement that the iPod touch is the world’s most popular portable game player. This would mean the Nintendo DS and the PSP are selling less than the Apple iPod touch. Apple did not provide any reference on how they arrive at this claim.
Fortune reports that Apple never released detailed iPod sales numbers. So we actually do not know how to compare iPod touch sale numbers with that of Nintendo and Sony. Possibly Apple sold a lot of iPod touch devices in the last quarter. I actually feel sorry for the people who bought an iPod touch last quarter, with the new much, much better iPod touch shipping this week.
