Samsung: Dual-Core Orion Processor Announced

Samsung has given us a look at the next generation of drool-worthy smartphone processors. PC World reports that they've just outed the new Orion processor, which packs dual 1 GHz Cortex A9 cores for a double-dose of power. Even the venerable Snapdragon seems anemic standing up to such a titan.

The Orion will be able to handle 1080p video playback and recording at a rate of 30 fps. An Orion smartphone can easily handle two displays, and will also be able to drive a third display via an HDMI port. This makes both dual-display smartphones and tablets like the Courier much more likely.

Samsung claims the Orion will be able to handle five times the 3D graphics performance of the lauded Hummingbird chip in the Galaxy S/Tab. This uber-processor will hit in Q4 of 2010, which means we'll see mass production in the 1H2011. Can you stand the wait?
