Yoshio Sakamoto, the man behind the incredibly successful Metroid series, has given a rather intriguing tease about Nintendo's next home console, saying it will blow your mind and leave you speechless.
Nintendo has so far been the only console maker to even mention the idea of a new system. Sony and Microsoft are seemingly very content with the way their "future proof" consoles have done so far. There is no expectation for a PS4 or Xbox 362 any time soon.
Nintendo, meanwhile, did not future-proof the Wii, as it has no capacity for a large hard drive, can't display HD content, and has only limited capability to software-based system upgrades.
Sakamoto touched on this in an interview with Spanish language website 3D Juegos (translated by Google Translator). "We have never done what others have. We prefer to create something new that catches attention, and I think this will continue this time as well," said the heralded game designer.
"Surely the new Nintendo machine will leave you all with your mouth open," he continued. The clunky translation aside, it leads us to believe that Nintendo already has some sort of working demonstration set up for the next console and it is hard at work toiling with it behind the scenes.
In comments made earlier this year, Nintendo head Satoru Iwata said the company was definitely working on the Wii's successor but will be extremely tepid about revealing anything because of fear of other companies copying its technology (see: PlayStation Move and Xbox 360 Kinect).
