The leaked bargain Netbook went on sale at CVS, but is already a hard to find item.

In August a report appeared that CVS plans to sell a bargain netbook this fall. The Windows CE powered 7-inch Sylvania netbook is actually on sale already at the CVS pharmacy for $99.99. CVS featured the Sylvania netbook in their latest sales circular. The $99.99 price is valid through September 18th.
Update Nov. 21:
CVS Pharmacy just unveiled the CVS Black Friday ad valid the whole week starting today. The Sylvania Netbook is now in-stores for $94.88.

CVS says that the 7-inch Sylvania netbook is a mobile wireless device offering e-mail, streaming video, social networking and Wi-Fi.

Clearly this netbook is of limited use as it runs Windows CE. If it would be an Android device it would be awesome, but apparentely the demand for a Windows CE netbook is still extremely high.

Barbara Garrett managed to get her hands on the CVS Sylvania netbook and published a review. She also reports that the netbook is sold out in most CVS stores.

Her CVS Sylvania netbook review confirms my expectations of the device. It works ok for casual online tasks like checking Facebook, but disappoints at Youtube video streaming.

I suggest you hold your horses and wait for Black Friday netbook deals that feature Windows 7, Linux or maybe even Android. Netbooks are under heavy pressure from the iPad and other tablets this fall. Netbooks deals are most likely to be stunning in the Black Friday 2010 sales season.
