Russian Dual-Screen 4G Device: Amazing Efficiency

It doesn't look like it would fit in a pocket well, though.

The Next Great Idea for smartphones may be coming courtesy of Russia. Recombu has just posted up a video of the Russian president fiddling with a 4G smartphone. The device has two screens. One on the back which appears to be e-ink, and one on the front which is turned off.

This represents a really brilliant solution to a very persistent issue with almost all smartphones...battery life. With a larger phone like the Evo, even the simple task of flipping it on to check the time or send a quick message will drain the battery with moderate speed. Hence, the rear e-ink display. Do your chatting or ebook reading on the monochrome screen, then switch around to the color screen for videos, movies and Internet browsing.

This Android phone is still in prototype form, but is expected around May of 2011. Hopefully someone on this side of the world will get the same bright idea.
