Specifications

The Logitech Speaker System Z623 is designed to connect to computers, TVs, DVD players and other sources. It can also be hooked to the PS3, Xbox, and Wii game consoles. The speakers have 200W RMS power and a pair of 3.5mm inputs. The system also has a RCA input for connecting to devices as well and a headphone output. Controls for bass, power, and volume are integrated into the speakers. The MSRP for the Logitech Speaker System Z623 is $149.99.

In Use

The Logitech Speaker System Z623 is an easy system to connect to your PC. The thing comes out of the box in three pieces with the sub and a pair of satellite speakers. The sub is massive and has huge sound, which we will get into later. The sub hides the amp and has the connectivity to the PC, RCA, and for the satellite speakers built-in.

Setting the system up is as easy as plugging the sub into the wall, connecting the right and left satellites, then hooking to the 3.5mm input for your PC or plugging in your RCA cables for other components. The Logitech Speaker System Z623 offer a ton of volume, you can crank this system up to levels that are uncomfortable when sitting right in front of the computer, but allow you to hear from other rooms.

The subwoofer has a bass control and the thing hits so hard you can shake stuff on your desk if you crank that bass control all the way up. I found that setting it at a bit less than half strength was ideal for me. The bass in music was still nice and deep, game explosions sounded ferocious, and movies sounded good.

The THX certification guarantees that if your connected device supports THX you will get sound from your content exactly how the maker intended you to hear it. If there are any downsides to the Logitech Speaker System Z623, it’s the size of the speakers. The subwoofer is massive making it a bit hard to find a place to put the thing. I would also like to see the speaker ship with longer cables. It was a bit of a stretch getting the satellites positioned where I want them on my large desk with the sub beside the desk.

Over all the sound is very nice for the $149 price point. You can get way more bass from the system than most folks will want and that bass on moderate levels doesn't overwhelm the mids and highs to the point that the sound is harmed.

Verdict

Pros

  • Deep, rumbling bass
  • Attractive design
  • Works with multiple input devices

Cons

  • Subwoofer is hard to position thanks to its size

Conclusion

The Logitech Speaker System Z623 is a very good speaker system for someone not wanting full surround sound, but wanting deep bass and great sound quality without breaking the bank.
