T-Mo is taking "green" seriously. GigaOM reports that the carrier has unveiled a solar-powered cell tower in Chalfont, Penn. This is the first solar-powered cell site in the entire United States, and contains some 12 solar panels.
According to T-Mo, this site is totally off-the-grid, although it generates enough power to occasionally feed a little power into the grid. Currently, .11% of the world's cell base stations run off of solar and wind power. By 2014, that number is expected to jump up to 4.5%. After the zombies hit and the power plants go dead, SOME of us will still have cell reception.
