Is Amazon taking on the Tablet Market?

Amazon pioneered and also dominates the eReader market in the United States with the Kindle. At a price of only $139 the latest Kindle eReader is almost a commodity. TechCrunch is reporting about a rumor that Amazon is getting ready for competing in the fledgling Tablet market.

Amazon has accumulated a lot of experience with the Kindle in how to make and sell a gadget. That is why they also launch their own app store. To succeed with a connected device like a Tablet you need to offer a seamless experience, like Apple does with iPad and iTunes.

According to TechCrunch Amazon is apparently launching their own developer program for the Amazon App Store. The terms appear to be similar to what Apple is offering to developers. An announcement could be happening already this week.
