The Apple Tablet has been long rumored to also be an eBook reader, has even been called the print media savior already. The WSJ reported yesterday that HarperCollins Publishers is negotiating with Apple over eBooks according to people familiar with the situation.
Apparently the eBooks would have added features that would help raise the price point again for eBook releases.
Mentioned as additional features, are video and social networking integration. Book reading could become a whole new experience, but do we want that? I see multimedia enhancements only interesting for magazines and newspapers. Novels should just stay text, else you cannot have your fantasy as your very own personal experience.
Additionally, if the Apple Tablet is really also an eBook reader, I really wonder what type of screen it has. It will be most likely a color screen, but conventional LCD screens are not ideal for reading text for a long period of time. That is why there is ePaper, which offers paper like contrasts.
There are eight more days until Apple unveils their "latest Creation." Eight more days to dream about the ultimate Tablet. I feel the excitement building inside me, especially because I don't know what the ultimate Tablet would be at this point.
