If you loved Lord of the Rings but feel it would have been better in 3D, there's some exciting news for you: The Hobbit and The Hobbit Sequel, prequels to the massively successful LotR flicks, will be in full 3D.
It shouldn't be a surprise announcement. It had been rumored that both films would be getting the treatment to please fans and also milk as much money as possible. It seems every big-name movie is getting the 3D treatment these days.
However, there were times when it was slightly in doubt, mostly after Guillermo del Toro left the director position and talks of a much lower budget for the film began surfacing.
But now it has been confirmed that both flicks will go 3D, and the movies are getting close to finalizing a studio to publish it.
It will likely be a while before you get all the fantastical 3D goodness, though. The Hobbit won't be released until at least December of 2012.
