Earlier today the Wall Street Journal broke the story that an Apple iPhone would be announced at today's LTE event. The ViPhone was expected to launch in early 2011.
Moments ago, during the actual press conference, a journalist asked Verizon's speaker about the iPhone rumor point blank. He responded, "This is one of those things that rolls out every few weeks, whether there is a basis for it or not." And he went on to add that, were a Verizon iPhone due out, Apple would be the ones making the announcement.
The iPhone rumor was far from killed, though. In fact, Big Red's spokesperson stated that "I think at some point our business interests will align." The Verizon iPhone will probably happen some day, but we shouldn't look for it in the immediate future.
