The HTC Surround isn't like any other phone on the market. Rather than sliding to reveal a QWERTY keyboard, it packs a gigantic Dolby Mobile and SRS surround sound speaker under the touchscreen. The Surround is being billed as a multimedia device and will be exclusive to AT&T in the US and Telus in Canada. It'll be $199 in the US.
In terms of specs, the Surround packs a 1 GHz processor with 448 MB of RAM and 512 MB of ROM. It has 16 GB of internal storage. The camera is a 5 MP shooter with auto-focus and flash, plus 720p video recording. The Surround has a G-Sensor, digital compass, proximity sensor and an ambient light sensor. It has WiFi b/g/n.
The Surround's battery is a somewhat anemic 1230 mAH li-ion. It offers just 240-250 minutes of talk-time. That 3.8" display and giant speaker ought to make for a superior media viewing experience. If you spend a lot of time watching TV or movies on your phone (or using it as a portable boom-box) the Surround is worth considering. As a practical, general-use smartphone it has a lot to prove.
Update:
The HTC Surround is on sale now.
