The thing has a torn up plush C-3PO crammed in the mesh backpack that Chewy wore in Empire Strikes Back. The thing is epic, read on for all of the details.

The C-3PO Bespin Backpack measures 22" H x 13" W x 8" D and has the parts inside it to build a plush C-3PO. 3PO measures 40" H x 17" W x 8" D and has a zippered pocket that you can use to carry your iPad or other geeky stuff on his back. The C-3PO Bespin Backpack is available right now for $59.99.

In Use

I have played with several geeky toys and various items from ThinkGeek over the years and the C-3PO Bespin Backpack is one of the coolest. I loved the scene in The Empire Strikes Back where Chewbacca has to put the torn up C-3PO in a backpack so they can escape the cloud city and the evil Billy D. Remember the scene well, I do.

The C-3PO Bespin Backpack recreates that scene with a plush 3PO that has Velcro on many of his stump parts. The only parts that don’t come off the droid are his head and one of his arms. The legs come off in two sections with the thigh and the calf on each leg. The one arm comes off in a single piece as well.

The stumps of the sections are covered in a Velcro-style hook and loop material that is very strong. You can build the droid and carry it around if you want without worrying that the parts will fall off. My daughter is really into stuffed animals and the backpack fit her six-year-old frame perfectly.

She was able to build the droid right away and could easily put the parts together and take them apart at will. She carried the robot around all night long and sat it beside her to watch some Sponge Bob. I can always tell when she really likes something because she tells her friends to not mess with it. She was really protective of the C-3PO Bespin Backpack.

She was extra proud when one of her pals told her she was lucky because she got all of the cool stuff. This was coming from a bunch of kids that have no idea what Star Wars is and what it meant to my friends and me when we were her age. All they know is that it was a cool little robot that was stuffed and could be taken apart. The squeals the C-3PO Bespin Backpack elicited from the girls were well worth the $59.99 ThinkGeek asks for the C-3PO Bespin Backpack.

This is easily one of the coolest and geekiest toys I have had in my hands. If you are a fan of Star Wars or have kids that like cool toys, the C-3PO Bespin Backpack is perfect. The backpack and parts are well made and will stand up to a life of rough play with kids or sitting on a geek's shelf for decoration. The only downside is that my review unit's flashing eyes are hard to activate.

Verdict

Pros

  • So awesome it hurts
  • C-3PO can be built and played with

Cons

  • Backpack is small, geeky adults be warned
  • Flashing eye lights are hard to activate.

Conclusion

The C-3PO Bespin Backpack is a perfect toy or gift idea for any Star Wars fan or kid with a parent that liked Star Wars as a kid and still does. This thing is cool even for kids who don’t know C-3PO from Iron Man.

The “geek mind” is concerned with more than just the latest iPhone rumors, or which company will win the gaming console wars. I4U is concerned with more than just the latest photo shoot or other celebrity gossip.

The “geek mind” is concerned with life, in all its different forms and facets. The geek mind wants to know about societal and financial issues, both abroad and at home. If a Fortune 500 decides to raise their minimum wage, or any high priority news, the geek mind wants to know. The geek mind wants to know the top teams in the National Football League, or who’s likely to win the NBA Finals this coming year. The geek mind wants to know who the hottest new models are, or whether the newest blockbuster movie is worth seeing. The geek mind wants to know. The geek mind wants—needs—knowledge.
