The Wall Street Journal just posted that Verizon is unveiling a low-cost data plan for smartphones next week according to a person familiar with the matter. The $15 Verizon data plan would be restricted. You would get only 150 MB of download volume per month. If you exceed this limit you get charged extra.
Verizon Wireless is supposed to offer this now low-cost data plan along with the currently available unlimited data plan that costs $29.99 per months.
The new $15 plan would be available starting October 28th for new costumers. The plan requires the usual 2 year contract.
A budget data plan is great for casual smartphone users who are not surfing hours every day. AT&T has already introduced lower priced data plans with limited data volumes.
